With the 2nd republican primary debate a week away, the leading candidate has declined participation. On the democratic side they don’t see the need for debate. I’m no political strategist, but what if on election day Americans' choice was not between red or blue, but a bipartisan ticket of red and blue.
In the far recesses of the 2020 election a lone voice, that was eventually silenced by Twitter, called to bring the country together in a most unimaginable way. Bret Weinstein set forth the Articles of Unity, where a presidential candidate from both the left and the right would run together with the understanding that, should things go in their favor, the office of the president would be shared, more or less. An interview with Bret about this topic can be found here.
Perhaps in 2020 we weren’t ready for unity, too many axes still needed grinding. Now the air is different, though the dash of our political party bus is still bright with doom. As a country we could withstand another four years of Biden or Trump, but it’s pretty well understood now that nobody wants either, yet their rematch is all but inevitable. Who knows what the world might unleash should the status quo be kept, we can wait till 2028 when the parties have flushed or we can take two unusual candidates from different parties who seem to be generating similar excitement around their campaigns and shoot for the moon. Could history have sent an excalibur in the form of a candidate pair that, if unsheathed, could finally cut the head off the hydra of age-old interest and live to tell about it?
Imagine a vote in the 2024 election for the president of the United States of America going to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy.
Both of their campaigns have led with the message of uniting the country, I think if they’re serious they should toss up a hail Mary and team up.
In my head it played out like this, Kennedy takes the oath as President, one it’d be cool to have another Kennedy in the books, I’m sure his father and uncle would be proud, and two it would piss off the establishment to no end, perhaps even bait the state to take their best shot. VP Vivek would have a Chaney share of the load, divided up how they see fit.
They both oppose the war in Ukraine, RFK’s run down of the war on The Tim Dillon Show is worth a listen. Vivek gave a detailed presentation on how the president has the legal authority to dismantle any three letter agency that doesn’t serve the economy of government. Both carry a genuine desire to see America do better, they may see differently on how to go about it, but in the end this is the only truth that can set us free.
My proposal is simple: have a conversation, perhaps moderated by Bret Weinstein, set the example, and show that America is ready to get along.
